Last start, first finish

I’m working on four quilts. One is the Splendid Sampler, though at this point I am hand appliqueing Hawaiian blocks. So it makes sense that it will be a work in progress for a while.

The second is the flamingos, the little girl is due in September, so I’m not in a rush to quilt.

The third is a QAL with the Sewkindofwonderful sisters, I don’t think I’ve posted yet, I will.

The final one is for a baby boy who is due this month, so I’m working quickly. At Spring quilt market someone made and adorable Teddy Bear as a baby quilt. This pattern isn’t out yet but you can see it here. So I went looking for paper-pieced patterns instead but the color theme stuck with me. It is fun to show you what the paper looks like on the back. A few pieces have fallen off. The final large pieces were cut very accurately, I didn’t sew in with paper. When the back looks as good as the front.Next up I decided to include these wonderful owls from SewkindofWonderful. Yup, I’ve been using their patterns a lot lately.

Now to plan out the layout. My idea is just to add a border with the owls in the corners and the bear inTthe middle. I want it to be a rectangle, even though the bear block is a square. On Instagram, there is a group doing a quilt along with the patterns from the Quilters Planner. This block caught my eye, I spend time with fabric and rulers getting to fit the corner blocks.Building up the corners.Figuring out the layout.

The quilt is quite scrappy. I didn’t have enough of the yellow background to use in the border, I actually think scrappier is better here.

I completed the border pieces, measured carefully, then I added the background to the bear knowing exactly what the measurement was.  Had I tried to create the center and then build the border around it, I’m sure I would have had a lot of problems.I love how the corner fits into the border. I immediately started quilting, I’ll share the final project soon.
