Valentines Day

West Hollywood Stitch and Bitch has a traditional exchange of knitted items for Valentines day. This has become my favorite part of this day.IMG_4255It’s done in a round robin fashion, so I know who I’m knitting for but not who is knitting for me.12715536_1248754605141125_8789266781711049762_nThis year Mardi Gras was just a few days earlier, so Ellen made a faux King cake, and guess who found the baby?12741904_1248754878474431_376647971546372470_nSo I guess next year it’s my turn to bring a King Cake. IMG_4261Natalie got a blue hat and gave Brenda a blue/purple cowl.IMG_4264Then Brenda gave Yuki the pink hat.IMG_4266Yuki got me!!!!  Her specialty is knitting incredible lace with fine cobweb yarn. I am thrilled!!!12698365_1248771788472740_8943504028018760760_oI will have to get a better detailed picture, but as you can see, very delicate. It’s alpaca, so it is warm without being suffocating – since it is such a fine lace.  Yuki is brilliant, she put in beads instead of nupps. Anyone who knits knows nupps are a pain – they are an Estonian form of bobble – but awful to actually knit.IMG_4267We always include sweets, what could be better than a heart shaped donut, which I shared with Joel once I got home.12742617_1248771905139395_6734129003271468022_nMy giftee was Ellen, of course I had to sew something, a wonderful little basket. Apparently her husband coveted it.  Orange is her favorite color.12669527_1248771988472720_6934792956966628067_nSo how is this for a cowl!IMG_4278Meri modeling her crochet cowl. Sometimes crochet is the way to go, what a lovely clamshell stitch! Of course I also love the color.IMG_4286The girls who got hats!IMG_4287With a view from the back. 12741935_1248743391808913_6170605827832126351_nNora got a cute monster. When we started it was only scarves and cowls, clearly we have moved on. Btw, this little fellow is made from glow in the dark yarn.  It was too bright to check it out, but even as is, he is adorable.

Good friends, good times, good fun.

Sock yarn Bunny

sock bunny6 weeks ago I bought this pattern and yarn on the LA Yarn Crawl. I’m proud to say that it didn’t take long to dive in and make this fun bunny.bunny in progressI love knitting animals, there is something so satisfying about making a soft squishy three- dimentional animal.  This one is also a reminder of a fun day.Sock yarn bunnyWhat a good use for stripping sock yarn. I prefer making my socks out of solid or variegated these days.  This fellow will probably join the pile of things I’m making for the new grandson, or if I need a baby gift for someone else – he is perfect.pompom made on a forkLove his little pom-pom tale.  One of my WeHo Stitch and Bitch friends is getting married in August and has asked us to make pom-pons, they will be thrown after the ceremony instead of rice.  She linked to a tutorial on how to make pompoms with a fork, so I’m getting my practice.

Finally, a sad noteLaurie Ann Miller and BernadetteThis is my friend Lauri Ann with her beaver Bernadette. I am still in shock that  she died last week.  We will all miss her terribly.  She directed me to a number of wonderful patterns for these adorable little knitted animals.  Last time I saw her was on the LA Yarn Crawl. Bernadette was our group mascot and was photographed in every store.  Bernadette has gone to live with Jenna and will be henceforth  known as St. Bernadette The Beaver, Mascot of the West Hollywood Stitch and Bitch group.
