The yard redo progresses very slowly

So we have a new back fence, the ground is prepped for the ‘grass’ and at some point someone will prep for the new plants.

It took some discussion, thankfully the neighbor agreed to split the cost with us. The neighbors behind us have their own fence that isn’t in great shape, but we didn’t need to discuss anything with them.

At the last minute, I ran outside to get the picture of the old fence that clearly is falling down.

When this fence was built, they already propped it up…. it wasn’t destined to last long.

fence gone, looking into the neighbors yard. Our grandkids visited, they wanted to run in there. Also, Jack and Maria sat in the evening and it was very nice just to chat. And yet, I like my privacy.

Putting up the posts. The old fence was put up with duct tape and a few nails

Buy Cialis Professional UK

, here they are concreting the posts in the ground.

Building the frame.

I’m looking here at the stump of an old palm tree we took out years ago. Yes, I am wondering, will they dig this out? When the tree was chopped down, I was told, oh in a few years it will just rot away. Clearly I didn’t pay much, because the tree removers didn’t feel that it was part of their job to remove the stump. It will be interesting to see what happens now. Yes, it has rotted away some, but its’ not gone.

The slats, ready to go. It is a very good thing I stayed home. We told the workmen many times, that the ‘front’ of the fence will face the neighbors yard. That was part of the agreement to get them to redo the fence with us. The workmen almost started doing it on our side. They were surprised when I said no, we get the back. But you know what? I’ll take the back if it means we have both a good fence and good relations with the neighbors.

The part went up very quickly.

This is what the backside looks like. Not bad.

Where the two fences meet. We are going to have all kinds of plants, so I’m not that worried. Life is full of compromises. I guess we could have paid full price and had the front facing us, I’d rather have good relations with the neighbors.

Hopefully things start moving a little more quickly. Everything these days just drags on.

I have been looking at outdoor furniture. I won’t be getting a full set, the couches are huge. I’m thinking two chairs and a table. This will be in the front yard. We have more shade there. I’ve rarely used the front. I may want something in the back, but will wait until its’ complete, to really get a feel for what I want. Also, it may be that seating area in the front and eating in the back may be what will be.

A visit to the LA county Fair

I’ve lived in LA for 32 years, you would think that I would have visited the fair sometime during those years. I’ve been to the Ventura Fair, I’ve been to the Calgary Stampede – it was time to visit the one closest to home.

I have been to the Fairplex, the large complex is used year round and I have been here for sewing and craft shows. But this was the first time at the fair itself.

100 Years!

You know me, I adore vintage cars and boy did they have some beauties.

This Cadillac could very well be in it’s original color – well update, but Cadillacs alway came in bright red.

This one won all the ribbons, not just at this fair. Clearly the color isn’t original but it is gorgeous! I have no problem with updating a classic.

Then there was a section of bikes and trikes, adorable and also, lovingly created.

Onto the crafts, one huge problem is the displays aren’t all that good. The cases are dark. I’m wondering, if since there wasn’t a fair for two years, and the date changed from September to May, if less people sent things in. Or is it that there are other shows? There were plenty of nice handmade items, and others that weren’t special in any way. Is it just the hokie-ness of a county fair?

This is by far my favorite for many reasons. It is mosaic, I LOVE mosaic, don’t think I’ll be doing much of it myself because it is hard on the hands, I’ll think I’ll be sticking to fibercrafts – which take their own toll.

The other reason why I love this reproduction of a Renoir, is because as a child, I had a painted reproduction of this picture in my home and I LOVED it. The little girl in the garden with the watering can and the gorgeous blue dress! I never looked anything like that, nor did I have such a lovely garden, but I love this picture.

The rides, the midway, all were there and all were busy. Sorry, no pictures. People watching was great, a lot of people, all ages, a real cross section of the county, walking around, enjoying, having a great day. The weather was perfect, high 70s, so warm, but not unbearably hot. My understanding is that the May is now the month for the county fair, it took a two year shutdown, for them to be able to reschedule the fair. One of the few good things about Covid.

The fair is also all about the food. And yes, it was all fair food, This is the only picture I took. There was a lot of deep fried things, there was BBQ, there were huge Turkey legs as well as cotton candy and all the other Fair fare. We did buy a baked potato and corn – super expensive but one of the few ‘healthy’ items we could find. We also went shopping, once again, was it because of the hiatus? But every hall had the same vendors, spas, BBQS, massage Chairs.

We did make a purchase, one of these large rotating umbrellas, as we redo the back yard I will need more shade, and I don’t want to build more pergola. So we bought this exact one, same color. I have already gone to look at some, and yes, prices at the fair are better than the stores.

Yes

, I stopped at the nail booth. For 130 dollars, you can buy the nail powder kit. You can see which nail was done with the magic powder. Didn’t buy, will probably have a hard time removing this. I no longer go to have a manicure – another casualty of Covid. But I have found an at home solution. I use Healthy Hoof on my cuticle. (Available from Amazon). This is used for horses hoofs and it works really well on human nails – makes them strong and long, I do the simple manicure myself.

You can’t have a county fair without animals. Hopefully this guys is on someones table in November.

Ahh! Sheep!

Peruvian goats. Nice long hair for living in the Andes. We missed the pig races – oh well. Also missed the Clydesdale parade, but did see the horses.

There were a ton of stuffed animals, both to win or simply buy. So here is the children ride area, and now I will say goodbye. I don’t think I I’ll be back for a while. It was fun, but thankfully there are plenty of other things to do as well.

Garden work continues – slowly.

Old fence, I grabbed a picture before they tore it down.

New fence

buy-kamagra-oral-jellies.com

, so much nicer. We are talking to our neighbor about replacing the side fence between us – it is a total mess and is falling down.

Meanwhile, they are prepping for the artificial grass.

They have marked out the areas and filled them in with a base of Decomposed granite. That will form a solid base.

Work in progress. They had finished the other side. Then a delivery of DG was deposited in front of our house for the remainder of the work. The workmen arrived early in the morning, took all their equipment away.

Turns out that another customer had the DG dropped in their driveway and they couldn’t leave the house, so the guys ran off to fix that problem

They not only finished the front.

My famous rock is still in place, other rocks have been moved around.

The three little ones were in situ. The big one was moved from the area that is now patio.

All of this will be grass.

As you can see, the fence is in dire straits.

another rock moved.

My tomato is finally ripening, looking at this picture, I saw a slug!!! I immediate ran out and pulled off the slug and leaf he was on! Yikes.

Driedel, Driedel

It is not easy to find good Jewish cross-stitch patterns. Let’s be honest, most Jewish art in general is very kitsch. I’m always looking.

So I found this:

Here is the pattern I bought from Ink circles at the Attic in Mesa.

I decided to reverse the colors, I also worked with 40 count.

I started, whoa! 40 count on a dark fabric is very hard to see!

I limped along, I was actually wearing my X5 glasses as well as looking through the X2 lighted magnifier. Then I wised up and pulled out a hoop.

Having the fabric pulled taut helps, although I can’t do my preferred sewing method. Its’ back to the stab method. Moving along easier and faster. So what am I noticing, of course the menorahs. As well as stars of David, two styles, one traditional and the other on an angle.

Of course we have the driedels.

Behind the dreidel is the Torah Scroll.

A kiddish cup for wine

The stars of David.

My signature as well as what I think of as the spice box for Havdallah.

Then of course there are simply fill in decorative designs.

I think this probably would look better on a larger count fabric. You do have to look closely to see the elements

I framed it with a simple frame from Michaels.

Right now it is on my desk. Soon it will be put away to be brought out on Hannukah. I am looking for some elegant Hebrew letters, I have plenty of plain ones, but I want to make a Challah cover and I want some fancy letters. Easy to find in English, not so easy in Hebrew.

The craft fairs are back!

What a pleasure to go to downtown Burbank for the Jacklope craft fair.

I brought my nice camera but didn’t replace the macro lens. So a lot of images are just fuzzy

cialis uk

, then again, one fuzzy image here isn’t bad.

Much better, not so fuzzy. I went on Sunday, it was a little cooler than Saturday, all the vendors complained about Saturday!

Elephant and fox. Westley and elephant lovies, he has completely outgrown them. Cameron still likes his foxes. OH, does time fly!

some very original lamps, how about that Jack Daniels, or the old hurricane lamp?

a lot of ceramics, these lacy bowls are beautiful.

Cool bags, I didn’t ask if they were made from rugs or were handwoven for the purpose of making the bags

Same booth, I’d say the handles of these bags are handwoven.

A number of chalk artists were busy at work.

I love chalk artists. They work very hard, usually in the hot sun and within a day or two, it’s all gone.

A superhero I don’t know cuz I’m old?

These guys I know!! Probably most of the young people have no idea. They are probably wondering which one is Karl.

It was really hot, I bought a artisnal popsicle from Nomad, Lime basil. – very refreshing and yummy.

Of course I spent money. I love supporting all these creative people. Well, I can’t support them all, so buying from a few of them helps. Ceramics by Mims. I’ll have to get a better picture of the colors, but it is a lovely ceramic piece that can go in the oven. I’m happy to update from the many pieces I’ve bought at places like Homegoods – where you know everything is made in China.

a necklace with a lovely piece of amethyst. Although, its the side bands of color that really caught my eye. I need a better picture of this as well.

All in all a lovely day at a craft fair.

Birthday and other stuff

Cam turned six! how did that happen!

He had his birthday party at the park right bellow his school. It was an old fashioned birthday party. In the park, balls and games, kids running around and having a glorious time.

Although he and his brother have never seen a Starwars movie or show

, the power of Disney is so strong, he loves the characters. So a Child cake it is. Notice those two items taped to the box, only an Armenian bakery would include those.

Here is mom lighting them.

How cool is that! Real fire and sparkles. Also notice how happy all the kids are with this. Thankfully no parents panicked.

The ears came off, and the cutting started.

This is what was left. Along with pizza, some of the cake was given away to other people at the park. Oh, it was delicious, chocolate with real buttercream, not too sweet, but clearly a very rich cake.

On his fathers’ recommendation, I got him some kits from Kiwi Co. This one said appropriate for 9 years old. I’m sure dad helped. Had to get something other than lego, he has plenty of lego, of course got more from friends.

Second item was to build this pencil sharpener – it said for 14 years old. These two boys are extremely bright and have that engineering gene from their dad. So with is help, this worked out fine.

Meanwhile, Aytan is preparing for his Bar Mitzvah!!! Another, how the heck did that happen? For all the problems and issues that he has, seeing him hug the Torah like this – melts my heart.

Final accomplishment. I made this dress for this little girls older sister about 11 years ago

, she is number four. Which means this dress has been worn by four little girls and its’ still looking good! Pretty amazing, because I happen to know that these girls are a rough and tumble bunch. Yay for home sewing!!!

Fox and squirrel

I have been working on a fox cross-stitch with my granddaughter in mind. Luckily for me, the designer also has a squirrel, which my grandson likes – although a giraffe would have been better.

I worked them both on the same piece of fabric.

I now have two scraps from the sides

Compra Levaquin Online

, at the moment I am saving linen scarps.

Some close ups of the squirrel. The body called for a variegated thread. I didn’t have that and I was working off my stash. I did find two colors that are close and worked with them to give that mottled look.

I thought I had just enough thread to get through, but somehow the last length of the darker thread disappeared. Yikes, so if you look closely I mixed two others to get a similar affect. I’m mentioning this here, didn’t say a thing when I gave it to my grandson, no one else will notice.

Put in my initials and the year, that is 22, not zz

framed them myself with frames I bought from Michaels. Not a perfect job, but good enough.

Framing is very expensive, so I’ll save that for really special pieces.

Side by side.

Each on their own wall. Shira’ wall is purple

Aytans’ is green. also, this is hanging right below a window, so there is a lot of light and glare. They are both very very happy with their gift.

Sewing!

I showed my son in law how to sew a Hawaiian shirt. for his first try he made a muslin, in this case a wearable one.

Very good job!

He made a muslin for his son

, well, just a really cute shirt on a very very happy boy.

I made Joel one more shirt from the fabric I bought in Maui.

And I made myself a dress. I was impatient and spent a lot of money to buy the pattern. they don’t have many patterns anymore. I need to order online again.

The dress was very easy to make, but it requires a belt, something I’m not crazy about. I didn’t make the belt from the fabric, I think this one works well.

Yes, the style works well with this large print. If it ever gets warm here, I’ll wear it. We now have May Gray.

I do love that the fabric is both Hawaiin and very mid-century in its look.

As you can see, I styled it with the shell lei we got when we arrived at our resort.

Never let anything go to waste!

redoing the front and back yards

This is the last time I will post a picture of this Iris. I truly love it

2pharmaceuticals.com

, but it only blooms once a year and each flower lasts just a few days, so for about 10 days of pretty, I have ugly the rest of the time. So along with most of the other plants in my garden, it is gone.

guys came on Tuesday and started clearing everything out. Btw, the lack of grass, that is all on me. I stopped watering the garden back in November. Interestingly the tenacious grass has held on somewhat.

All that remains along this wall is the fountain that will probably become a planter. It wasn’t well designed

buy cheap kamagra online

, the water sprayed out so quickly that if I hadn’t filled it daily, the pump would burn out. I’m proud of the mosaic, but my mosaic making days may be over. I am trying to care for my hands and wrists, cutting glass is a big strain.

Pulling out the plastic dividers and 90% of the plants. The lemon tree stays! Btw, you would think that 6 months of no garden irrigation would mean lower water bills. Nope, the DWP always figures out how to get their profit. Also, every bill tells me that I am using way more water than others with properties my size. another thing to be black pilled about, aside from every politician, the medical field and all of our overlords. They lie.

One problem I’m hoping the redesign will help solve is the sedge grass weed. We shall see.

The big boulder remains. The fence in the back will be replaced.

They cleared out the area next to the patio.

All that remained were the rocks

Then they were moved! Grading and preparing for an extension of the patio.

continuing the brick edging.

Hard at work pouring new concrete.

Here it is! Wow! I am talking to my DIL who has been buying and designing Airbnbs. Once the project is done, she will have to help me buy furniture for both yards. I will have a nice seating area in the front as well as the back. At the moment we won’t be buying a new outdoor table, but I will need nice seating.

I’ll keep you updated.

Just random Maui

Sunsets are amazing, even if the sun forces you to close your eyes.

This angle is a little better, although, still squinting.

There is the sunset that is causing the problem. There was turtle swimming right by the beach, he even pulled out a flipper and waved at us. I was enjoying trying to spot him, who had time to focus a camera?

Look at those roots! I’m pretty sure this tree is dead – all that salt water, but what a beautiful natural sculpture.

Another tree, other roots – beautiful

Wailea beach is the best! wide sand, a cove so protected from the waves. Well worth a visit. Also this meant that we stopped at Eskimo Candy fish. The best Poke ever and I’m glad they aren’t changing their name. This fish company has been around for over 30 years, let the name remain.

More enjoying ocean water.

The whalers village in Kaanapali has some interesting store decorations. Love the ceramic fish.

How about these outdoor orchids! Lovely!

went into the ocean museum. I could have spent more time there. Of course there was a section about the whaling industry, and there were beautiful items made from the scrimshaw, the bones or teeth of whales. Of course this caught my eye, a sewing box!

I also like the name, ditty box.

It was Passover, we most certainly weren’t eating pies. Love these wonderful pie crimpers. Although, doesn’t look like they were used on this one.

Every rooster has its’ hen. In some cases more than one.

I missed this guys hens.

At the gas station before leaving. I saw this guy.

Oh, there she is!

No mask on the flight home!!! Also when we arrived at LAX, despite the vampire from the County health department (I call her a vampire because she is so pale, she clearly never sees sunlight). most people didn’t put on masks.

I did stop at the fabric store near the airport, I’ll share what I got soon. They demanded masks. 10 years from now, people will be demanding masks. I’m now seeing the hipster stores have signs asking you please to wear one – because that is how they virtue signal. I had no choice with the fabric store – my SIL really enjoyed the store. But here in LA I have choices – and no mask for me. In most cases I will simply avoid giving those places my business. Two years of meaningless hell is enough, and as I mentioned – here in LA county, they have become communists – regulating our health and making sure that criminals roam the streets freely.
