Gifts

It’s the holidays and making gifts is taking up a lot of time. This time it wasn’t a Christmas gift – although I did give it at a Christmas Party. It was more of the delayed house warming gift.P1120872I’ve been doing a lot of paper piecing lately, still working on my New York beauty of course. But this is different, because the pieces are so irregular, I made a lot of mistakes. I also gave up on trying to get the background all in the same direction.P1120873My friends love Mid-century modern, well Eames to be exact. They have many Eames chairs, splints and even an airplane wing. Long story.  Anyway, the day before the party I started these, ‘simple’ placemats. At our Valley MQG meeting we were taught how to insert the quarter inch border. Such a nice finishing touch.P1120874Nice thing about placemats is there is no set size.P1120875Quilting, in the ditch around the chair and some squiggles in the background.P1120876Straight line quilting with the waking foot as well.P1120877The finished chair.P1120878And the finished sofa.P1120879Bound with label on the back.P1120882Another quick photo and I wrapped them like a tootsie roll.

They joined other hostess gifts on the table and I had a lovely time at the party, with old friends and new.

The next day, emails, messages! How could I not have them open the gift while I was there?? These are amazing, they are going straight to the framer and will be displayed on the wall.  Umm, they are placemats, you can use them and wash them.  No way, this is art!  Ok, so even when I just try to be a crafter someone calls my work art. As long as they love it, that is all that really matters.
