More Split

An arch that doesn’t have the Roman Arch. It’s a doorway out of the walled city.

What age does to old stone, and nature will take over as soon as possible.

I call this guy Merlin, although he was a medieval bishop, who fought the Pope and introduced the Croatian language into language of the Catholic services in Croatia. This was sculpted by Ivan Mestrovic – the most famous Croatian sculptor. Of course I had never heard of him until visiting that country.

His famous shiny toe. It wasn’t easy to get this picture without people crowding around rubbing the toe. It is supposed to give good luck. With all the rubbing, the distinct features of the toe are being rubbed away.

I love this image of him!

On main plaza, another wonderful Austrian era building.

A close up of the art nouveaux details.

More details from another building, as I say, always look up!

The modern Industrial Age created this form of architecture and decoration, and yet, it is so organic with hardly any hard straight lines in sight.

These decorations are either concrete or plaster. Under the window sill is probably carved out of marble.

Love this clock.

another interesting sundial on the wall of a nunnery on the island of Hvar. Notice that it isn’t a full clock, this is because there are other buildings around that cast shade on those other hours.

Saw this on the street and poked my nose in – nothing just a simple coffee shop, I do like the name!
